HOMAG Automatische Spindelklemmung

The automatic spindle clamp is a patented function on CNC-machining centres and drilling automats by Weeke, and since 2017 by Homag drilling systems respectively, which is to ensure the exact compliance of the given drilling depth also on very different materials.

Operating mode:

The single controlled drill in the drilling unit by CNC-machining centres will usually be automatically lowered.

As air can be compressed, the drill reaches the actual end position a bit later than the Z-axis of the machine.

This can especially lead to the drill not reaching the programmed end position, especially with quick drilling cycles and harder materials, as the drilling spindle is being retracted already before the programmed depth is reached.

The automatic spindle clamp fixates the drilling spindle mechanically in the end position after it's being pneumatically lowered. Like that, the compression of the air pressure is omitted and the drilling spindle cannot yield.
