Type of machine for edging and slitting with large cutting heights up to 250 mm and narrow kerfs. A double edging saw always is characterised by two saw spindles which are either facing one another or which are one above the other.
Basic design (Höchsmann definition)
- Mechanical workpiece feed, usually with two seperate feeding chains at machine infeed and outfeed (see chain feed)
- Cutting height is split between upper and lower spindle (slight overlap). So smaller and thinner saw blades can be used to achieve thin, material-saving saw kerfs.
- Saw blades are working in up- cut direction, which means the lower spindle in up-cut direction and the upper spindle in down-cut direction and, according to technical type, can be mounted on the sawing spindle directly or on exchangeable bushings which can be fix or mobile.
- Sawing machines with two vertical spindles facing each other are called double spindle ripsaw, too.
